Our Time with Congressman Ryan

On May 6th, EDCO’s film crew sat down with Congressman Pat Ryan of New York’s 18th Congressional District. When a monopoly power company in Congressman Ryan’s district auto-billed tens of thousands of residents double, triple, and sometimes more than ten times what they owed for electricity, Congressman Ryan took a stand against their shady practices.

In our interview, we learned about how Congressman Ryan received over ten thousand reports of over-billing, and how the bold steps taken by Congressman Ryan eventually led to the resignation of the company’s CEO, and investigations that are still ongoing.

Congressman Ryan also told us about the deeper need to take on monopoly corruption in America. His approach includes taking on the role of corporate money in politics, giving consumers more choice in their electricity, and taking bold steps to protect the planet, especially because, as he emphasized, “we can’t trust these monopoly corporations to do it for us.”
